Privacy policy.

Information we collect

• Bill and receipt information. Receipt images, restaurant details, dates, items, prices, tax, tip, fees, discounts, and the resulting split. If a receipt image contains embedded metadata, Cuenta may read and store its capture date and precise GPS coordinates. The capture date helps date the receipt, and the coordinates help find the restaurant near where the image was taken.
• Participant information. The display name, initials, and color used on a bill; item selections; payment status; and an optional Venmo username for the person who paid.
• Access and technical information. Bill-specific access tokens and a necessary cookie that lets the web experience remember your participation. Our infrastructure providers may also process standard network information such as IP address, browser type, device type, and request logs to operate and secure the service.

A supported image format may be processed and uploaded without removing all of its embedded metadata. The stored receipt image can therefore retain metadata in addition to the capture date and GPS coordinates Cuenta reads separately.

Cuenta does not require a permanent account for someone joining a shared bill. We do not currently collect phone numbers through the guest web flow.

How we use information

We use this information to read receipts, calculate each person’s portion, keep a shared bill in sync, prepare payment handoffs, restore access to a bill, prevent misuse, troubleshoot problems, and respond to support or privacy requests.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use bill information for targeted advertising, and the public landing page does not load an advertising or cross-site tracking service.

When information is shared

• With people who have the invitation. Before joining, someone with a bill link or short code can see a limited preview that includes the restaurant, date, total, participant count, and up to eight participants’ first names, colors, and host status. After joining, participants can see information needed to split the receipt, including display names, item selections, receipt details, and bill status.
• With service providers. Cuenta uses Cloudflare for hosting, receipt-image storage, database, security, and real-time updates. Cuenta sends receipt images to OpenAI to return structured receipt information. Embedded image metadata may be included when a receipt image is sent to or stored by these providers. These providers process information on Cuenta’s behalf to operate the service.
• With Venmo at your direction. When you choose to pay, Cuenta opens Venmo with the recipient, amount, and note filled in. You review and send the payment. Venmo’s own privacy policy applies to its service.
• For legal or safety reasons. We may disclose information if required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect Cuenta, our users, or others.

Retention and deletion

Bill records and receipt images are kept while the bill is available and for as long as reasonably needed to operate, secure, and support Cuenta. Limited records may be retained longer when required for legal, fraud-prevention, or security purposes.

Cuenta currently uses bill-specific access instead of permanent guest accounts, so deletion requests are handled by email. To request access, correction, or deletion, email support@trycuenta.app and include the bill’s short code or another safe way to identify the record. Do not email the private access token from the full bill link, payment credentials, or other sensitive financial information.

Security

We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect Cuenta data, including scoped access credentials and restricted receipt-image access. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Children

Cuenta is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Cuenta changes. We will post the revised policy here and update the effective date.
